Senior Portraits
Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I wear for my senior portrait?

There is no one size fits all in our book. Wear what makes you feel good and most like yourself. This photoshoot is unique to you, and your clothing preferences are a part of that. This is something that we will go over in your pre-session planning meeting, plus we will give you a list of ideas that will help you to choose from your closet. .

  • How Will I Know How To Pose?

You don’t need to know a thing. This is our role, even with experienced models! We prompt and guide you for the most flattering angles, lighting, and final portraits. You will be coached every step of the way, and can relax knowing that we have your posing covered.

  • When is the best time of the year to schedule an outdoor portrait session?

In the Midwest, late spring, summer and fall are the best seasons to schedule portrait sessions. The seasonal colors help ensure the best images possible. Our busiest months are late summer and fall. If you’re reading this prior to the beginning of your senior year, consider scheduling your portrait session in June, July or August rather than waiting until after school starts. Senior portrait sessions are much more enjoyable during the warmer weather months.

  • How many outfits should I bring?

Most of our seniors bring two to three different ensembles to change into. We recommend bringing at least two different changes of clothes. There’s usually not enough time to change more than three times and is dependent on the session location and how easily you can change into a separate outfit. Again this is something we go over in the pre-session planning meeting.

  • I Know What Kind Of Look I Want, But I’m Not Sure What Locations To Go To In Order To Achieve It. Can You Suggest Options?

Of course! This is what the pre-session planning meeting is all about. After you have filled out your online questionnaire, I will recommend location options during our meeting. These locations are all based on what you like, your style, and personality. Tell us about your favorite spot or pick one of ours. A recommended list of outdoor locations can be found here.

  • What Time Of Day Is Best For A Portrait Session?

This answer depends completely on the location for the photoshoot. If we are shooting indoors, I generally recommend shooting in the morning. If we are shooting outside, it is best to schedule start of the session 2-3 hours before sunset for the best lighting for portraits.

  • Who can come with me to my senior portrait session?

Feel free to bring a friend, sibling, mom, or dad. Sometimes it’s nice to have someone come along to make you laugh and tote your gear. We can even have mom or dad assist with the lighting equipment.

  • What kind of props can I bring to the portrait session?

Props are a perfect way to help your personality shine through in your photos, a chance to show the world who you are and what you’ve accomplished. Props can include guitar/musical instrument; books; hats/fashion; sports jersey, uniform, equipment; etc. More information about props can be found here.

  • What if I have a zit?

No worries! We professionally retouch all images that will be shown in your gallery, the yearbook file sent to your school, and any prints. Those temporary blemishes will disappear! Please feel free to discuss any other issues that may concern you.

  • When will I see/select my images?

We generally have your digital images ready for viewing within 5 business days. We professionally edit and retouch these images, and then upload them to a gallery for you to view and order. We always suggest making a favorites file on-line and then make an appointment to place your order in person. This allows us to discuss cropping, print options, and any additional retouching options with you.

  • Can I Request Specific Photos To Be Taken?

Of course, but we will not copy a specific shot from another photographer. We hope that you are choosing us because you like our style of photography; we will work creatively so that you will get images you love from your session.

  • Can we take Behind the Scenes photos of our session to share on Social Media?

Absolutely! We encourage you to do this.
